Common questions
What is a panchanga?
The traditional Vedic almanac — the "five limbs" of time: vara (weekday), tithi (lunar day), nakshatra (lunar mansion), yoga and karana. Together they describe the quality of a day. Vedic Time computes all five for wherever you are, along with the shorter cycles that run inside the day.
How does the app work out my panchanga?
From your location and the current time, using Meeus Sun and Moon models, the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, and sunrise-to-sunrise day reckoning. It all runs on your device — no connection is needed to compute anything.
Your tithi or nakshatra disagrees with another panchang. Which is right?
Probably both, and this is normal. Panchangas differ because they make different
choices: which ayanamsa, where the day starts, which ephemeris. Two careful sources
routinely put the same transition minutes apart.
We would rather be specific than reassuring. The app's built-in ephemeris is a
truncated series, which keeps everything offline and instant; it costs a little
precision at the edges. Against DrikPanchang, our solar ingress (sankranti) moments
run roughly 10–18 minutes early. That is measured, not estimated, and
it is asserted in the test suite so it cannot silently drift. If a transition matters
to you to the minute, cross-check it.
Do I have to give my birth details?
No. Almost everything in the app is true for everyone in your city and needs nothing from you. Birth details only turn on the readings that compare the day against your own chart. You can add them later in Settings, or never.
I do not know my birth time.
Then set your birth star directly. If you already know your nakshatra or moon sign, you can enter them in Settings without a birth time or place, and the personal readings work. The moon moves fast, so a rough birth time gives a rough result — entering what you actually know is better.
Do I have to allow location access?
No. You can pick a city by hand instead, and the app reads for that city. Sunrise starts the Vedic day and falls at a different moment in every place, which is the only reason location matters at all.
Does it work offline?
Yes, for everything that matters. All the astronomy is computed on your device, so the app works on a plane or with no signal. Two things use the internet when they can: searching for a city, and turning your current location into a place name. Both fail gracefully — the app keeps working without them. The Privacy Policy spells this out.
How do I add a watch complication?
Long-press your watch face, tap Edit, choose a complication slot, and pick Vedic Time. There are five to choose from, showing the current hora, lagna or choghadiya. Tap one to open the full panchanga on your watch.
My watch is not showing my settings.
Open the iPhone app once so it can send your settings across, then check the complication is on the face you are actually wearing. The sync uses Apple's device-to-device connection and can take a moment. If it stays stuck, tell us — we are tracking reliability here and a report genuinely helps.
Can I change how horas are calculated?
Yes. Settings offers proportionate horas (the traditional default — day and night each split into twelve, so their lengths differ) and equal horas (the sunrise-to-sunrise span divided into twenty-four). The ayanamsa is Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) and is not currently adjustable.
Is this religious advice, or a prediction?
Neither. Vedic Time presents traditional Vedic timing as guidance and as cultural knowledge, with the classical sources named so you can see where a rule comes from. It is not medical, legal, financial or professional advice.
What does it cost?
Nothing. There is no subscription and no in-app purchase today.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the app. Everything it stores lives on your device — there is no account and no server copy, so there is nothing left behind and nothing for us to erase on your behalf.
Still stuck, or think something is wrong in the calculations? Use the form above. Reports naming a specific date, place and reading are the most useful kind.
